The birth of a baby is not only life-changing but, for many women, it can also be inspirational. At Lusso Baby we are proud to celebrate the Canadian women who have taken on the challenge of being moms while at the same time launching a new career. Inspired by the needs of their own children, these moms have created unique, organic and engaging products that parents everywhere can love. In our new column, we will present our fans our favourite Canadian-made goodies, from clothes and shoes to toys and strollers.

This week, we introduce you to Tami, the momtrepreneur behind Taslie Skin Care.

What were you doing before you launched Taslie?
Prior to Taslie Skin Care I ran the on-board photography department for Princess Cruises

What is the inspiration behind the brand?
After becoming a new mom I found it very difficult to find natural and organic products that were safe and actually worked well. As I had travelled the world with my previous profession I knew there were other options out there. I figured why not just create a line of fabulous, fun products for babies and children that are locally produced in Canada. I wanted to feel confident that these products were safe, natural and good quality products for my baby as well as your little one! Hence Taslie Skin Care Ltd. was born.

What is unique about your company?
Our company cares about our products as much as the environment. All our packaging is fun for children and environmentally friendly. All our packaging is made from recyclable plastics, recycled paper stock and labels. We have incorporated an additive to some of our product’s packaging, which will cause the plastics to break down or decompose in a landfill situation within 1-5 years.

Would you recommend Taslie products for babies with skin problems?
My daughter Nila has severe allergy to milk and dairy products; she breaks out in red nasty hives if she eats any dairy. I can sympathize with moms who have babies and children with skin issues such as eczema and dermatitis. We do not claim to clear up these problems though we have had fantastic feedback from patients who use our products at our local Naturopath and Midwifery clinics here in Vancouver.

What are the challenges you face as a mom and business owner?
Time! There is never enough time in the day to get everything done.

What do you love most about your job and why?
I love to make a difference to people. We support the vendor programs at BC Women’s and VGH and I like when customers let us know that our products are wonderful. Especially, when they tell us their child, who has eczema or dermatitis, has found improvement while using our products.

What advice do you have for future women entrepreneurs?
The advice I have to future women entrepreneurs is just to keep going with your dream. It is extremely hard work and you will encounter road blocks along the way. But in the end it’s well worth the effort.
